Supporting the International Year of Forests
The Year of the Forest was officially launched las week (24th January 2011) in New York at the United Nations Forum on Forests. So the time is ripe to announce the messaggio calendar 2011 that this year we have dedicated to our forests.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness of sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forest. Home to 80% of world’s biodiversity and 300 million people, forests provide for the livelihoods of 1.6 billion people, almost a quarter of humanity. Covering 31% of the total land area of Earth, forests store more carbon than the amount currently present in the Earth’s atmosphere.
These facts and many more show how important forests are for the survival and wellbeing of current and future generations. This year, many messaggio clients will be working to increase public awareness about the multiple benefits of healthy forests and the ways to keep them standing.
One client with whom we work particularly closely, The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has been a key player in forest conservation for many years. Throughout the year IUCN will highlight new findings from its livelihoods and landscape strategy, announce new initiatives in forest restoration work and build on recent successes in international REDD-plus (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) efforts. messaggio studios are also working directly for the UN-REDD programme to develop their branding guidelines.
In an additional effort to raise awareness of forest conservation and management, messaggio have dedicated the fourth edition of mondocalendar to our forests - in partnership with IUCN. 2011’s mondocalendar, which brings together international and UN dates, is our celebration of the forests around which we live. As with previous editions, all messaggio companies participated in this calendar. The otjiwarongo consulting staff gather and validate the dates, messaggio is responsible for the design and collecting the images shot entirely by our own photographers and natura print presses produce the calendar itself. Most photos were taken in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, where messaggio is based, the calendar expresses our appreciation and respect for the forest and our commitment to help conserve it.
If you haven’t yet received your copy of the 2011 mondocalender please contact your account executive or email us at info@mondofragilis.net and we will be sure to send one out to you.
