Praise for messaggio ICEM: 'Safer Mines' work.
ICEM - the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions - came to us in 2009. They needed design and printing publications to further their message about the importance of safer mines. The recent disaster - and rescue - in Chile has brought this critical cause to the public eye.
According to their website the ICEM estimates that at least 12,000 miners are killed on the job every year (no reliable international statistics are available). For them, a chief cause of continued mining tragedies in most countries is a lack of unionization. The ICEM mining sector are working to extend unionization worldwide and promote the ILO convention 176 on safety and health in mines.
messaggio works with 5 of the Global Unions and are experienced in advising on targeted communications tools in this field. We know that it is key to produce materials in various languages. ICEM, too, have particularly recognised the value in this following the Chile scenario. ICEM’s Dick Blin wrote this week to thank us for our work: messaggio studios’ safer mines posters and brochures “are a hit in Chile, and it is all due to the great folks at messaggio, who advised us at the outset to do the poster (and books) in Spanish!”
The whole messaggio team are proud to be working on such a worthwhile cause and will continue to encourage our clients to translate work into local languages where possible. We strive to help promote effective messages, that aim to cause change.
