Cancer is... editing completed

With Dr. Raul Cordero

In 208 minutes, viewers will finally get a chance to see and hear 52 leading cancer experts express their views on the current state of cancer worldwide.

Admittedly, editing the four films took longer than expected. Partners and media were initially told that the films would be ready by January 2009. Indeed, the first episode was ready early on but it soon became evident that the next three would take longer. The problem was the availability of amazing content. Indeed, the editing had over 100 hours of great interviews at its disposal. Editing 100 hours down to just under 4 is no easy task. But now it's done and time for the team to begin its aggressive free distribution campaign.

The films will be available on the mondofragilis.net and cancerfilm.tv websites as of this Monday 18 May 2009. Then progressively, the films will be available on partner sites, university sites and anyone else who wants to distribute them. The goal is to get as many people as possible to discover its content. Television stations are also starting to sign up to broadcast this historic series coproduced with the American Cancer Society, the World Health Organizations' International Agency for Research on Cancer, the International Atomic Energy Agency's Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy, the International Union Against Cancer and Sanofi-Pasteur MSD. Many thanks also to President George H. W. Bush for accepting to introduce and narrate episodes one and two of the series.

The films will hopefully show viewers what cancer specialists think about the current state of cancer. Do they think there is enough political support? Is there enough money for cancer? Is science moving forward as fast as we'd like it to?

Giray with Bush

Giray, mondofragilis group president with President George H. W. Bush, narrator of Cancer is... and staunch cancer advocate.

As producers we really hope that these films will make a difference in people's lives. We hope that they will get a better understanding of the world of cancer. Primarily, we hope that policy makers will watch these films and be inspired to give cancer science and care the kind of support that is necessary.
