Kiefer Sutherland narrates messaggio studios video produced for the International Social Security Association

ISSA video

November 2010 saw the World Social Security Forum in Cape Town, lead by the International Social Security Association.  messaggio studios were pleased to produce a short form film, screened at the opening ceremony presenting an introduction to social security as a fundamental right, and a factor of social stability and sustainable economic development. messaggio were responsible for securing actor Kiefer Sutherland as a narrator.

The World Social Security Forum gathered 1,200 delegates from the social security community who united to promote the extension of Social Security and the strengthening of Social Security systems in the face of current global challenges.

messaggio studios' 7 minute video was shown at the opening ceremony of the forum. The video - comprised of original messaggio studios footage from across the world - presents the state of Social Security and calls for action and solidarity in this important period. otjiwarongo consulting contributed to the script writing and engaged actor Kiefer Sutherland to narrate parts of the video. Mr Sutherland - as an ongoing advocate for access to healthcare and as the grandson of Tommy Douglas who introduced universal healthcare in Canada in the 1960s - brings substantial added-value to the message of this video.

The aftermath of the global financial and economic crisis continues to affect economies and people in most countries. While the recession seems to have ended, the impact on the labour market looks destined to persist for several more years. Nevertheless, social security systems have responded effectively to the test by softening the impact of the crisis. The challenge for social security now is to continue to cope with the social fall-out. messaggio studios’ video outlines some of the major challenges facing social security organizations, and identifies some of the priority policy responses needed to ensure the continued extension of social security in the future.

Raphaël Marino, head of audio-visual at messaggio studios, told us “it was a really interesting project to work on. The challenge was in presenting this multi-dimensional, international topic in a clear, universal message.”

ISSA’s Director of Social Security Promotion - Laurie Jones - informs us the video was very well received in Cape Town and we are pleased to continue to support the ISSA - we believe that Social Security really does make a difference. We were particularly pleased to be able to add celebrity support to this cause - bringing weight, leverage and visibility to this important message.
